Migrating to Vista is…suicidal?

May 13, 2008

It’s not the fall that kills you, it’s the ground at the end of the fall.  Novell marketing lets us know what to expect from a Vista migration.  And after the migration is complete.

Intentional or unintentional?  You make the call.  Are we really to believe that this gentleman will be landing in a pile of money or into a pool of cool refreshing Lipton iced tea or onto a trampoline held in place by thankful coworkers?  Probably a face full of asphalt.  From the site:

Will things fall into place?  Will there be concrete benefits?  Will Vista pave the way to productivity?  Will ROI bounce back from migration costs?  Will help desk issues plummet?  Should team just dive into the migration?  Making Vista dead easy?  When to take the jump?  Will you skip over some steps?  Do you really expect to hit the ground running?  What happens when the dust settles?  Dive in head first?  Is there life after XP?  Will the learning curve be flattened?  Will there be a post mortem?  Is this the end of the project lifecycle?  Novell marketing, you make my job of cracking jokes too easy.  They’re even crazy enough to use the phrase “lifecycle of your operating systems” which looks like it’s about to be put on “life support.”

Skip over some steps…now that’s comedy gold.

Actually, if you fall just long enough, you will die before you hit the ground, due to earth acceleration. That’s important, you know.

I think they’re subtly taking the piss out of anyone dumb enough to actually migrate to Vista this side of SP3 or thereabouts.

Vista is horrible. I dont think i’ve ever experienced such a horrible OS before. I wouldnt want to be responsible or facilitate a Vista migration. I’d rather migrate companies

Migrating to Vista is… just like migrating to the latest version of any desktop OS. Some things are different, most are the same. Most things work, some don’t. Only you and I can get either one to work decently. My company’s desktop isn’t going to Vista, but it’s not going to anything else either. To it’s credit though, Vista does help give the marketing folks (at Apple, Novell, etc.) a paycheck.
