Release Event gaining steam

January 16, 2008

The three initial amigos (Franz, Ade and yours truly) chugged through emails in the morning, tried to recover from fast food, debated on which tragic beer we’d force on Franz next, and saw a wave of gearheads arrive. An even larger wave arrives tomorrow.

A small group of valiant and daring pioneers will risk the perils of the Google site tomorrow all day – let’s call ourselves the KITT (KDE Intrepid Tiger Team) to establish a base of operations. I’ll print up the official tee shirts. We may parachute in, or just take the rented minivan.  Also, the self-forming, self-evolving and self-organizing community meetings on the 17th and 19th are beginning to take shape here.

The Wild Palms is a perfectly nice hotel, and the staff continues to help make sure that we’re prepared for everyone over the next several days. I am still getting requests to attend the Release Event – it’s going to be a packed house, that’s for certain. The hotel is going to be packed, and we’re having to turn down some late requests for lodging.

Franz and I met with the caterer this morning, and the Thursday evening mixer is going to be great. I fully recommend that everyone come to the Wild Palms on Thursday (6 to 8pm base hours): we’re going to have beer, wine, and enough great food to satisfy the most discriminating carnivore, vegan, vegetarian and octogenarian. The mixer officially aims for appetizers, but I know that many will be arriving and not wanting to head out for dinner, so the fare takes that into consideration. Vegetables, cheeses, salmon wrappers, tortellini, hummus, quesadillas, fresh fruit and deserts.

Only 45 emails left to respond to before bedtime.

I suggest making them drink Red Dog or Pabst Blue Ribbon. I personally like PBR, but that’s besides the point.
